First fully digital birth notification: Kiel, NEXUS and Vertama achieve end-to-end M2M

In a joint project with Städtisches Krankenhaus Kiel and KIS provider NEXUS, Vertama has delivered the first fully digital, paper-free birth notification in Germany — transmitted machine-to-machine from the hospital information system directly to the civil registry office.

The implementation closes a process that ran on paper for over 150 years. Vertama’s MaaS layer bridges NEXUS’s clinical system and Autista, the software used by German civil registry offices, with no manual re-entry at either end. Both e-health-com.de and nexus-ag.de covered the milestone — sources linked above. The project is documented in German.

The 'Kiel Model' goes national: digital birth notification live and spreading

The “Kiel Model” is live. The first digital birth notifications have been transmitted machine-to-machine and received by the civil registry office — ending a process that relied on paper for nearly 150 years.

Vertama provided the technical infrastructure enabling this end-to-end M2M process, delivered jointly with Städtisches Krankenhaus Kiel (SKK) and Universitätsklinikum Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH). Notifications are transmitted directly from the hospital information system to the registry office, with no manual handoff.

Podcast: DuBA – digitizing court-ordered commitment workflows in hospitals

André Sturm, CEO of Vertama, appeared on episode 15 of SAP’s “Innovation for Hospitals” podcast to discuss DuBA — Vertama’s solution for digitizing court-ordered commitment workflows between hospitals and public authorities.

Processing judicial accommodation orders under Germany’s PsychKG legislation places strict demands on legal compliance, data protection, and secure delivery. Until now this process has largely run on paper, with physical documents exchanged between clinics, courts, and authorities — creating friction and administrative overhead at every step.

Smart Country Convention 2025: Vertama and AKDB present joint session in Berlin

On September 30, 2025, André Sturm (Vertama) and Michael Diepold (AKDB) presented a joint session at the Smart Country Convention in Berlin: “Digital Healthcare: Efficient Automation Through Interfaces.”

The session demonstrated how birth and death notifications can be handled end-to-end as machine-to-machine processes between hospital information systems and civil registry offices — without paper, without manual re-entry. AKDB provides the secure transmission infrastructure via its OK.Komm middleware; Vertama delivers the process logic that connects clinics and public authorities.

Vertama extends support for Oracle EU Sovereign Cloud

Oracle has listed Vertama in a press release covering companies expanding their solutions for Oracle EU Sovereign Cloud. In practice, this means hospitals that run — or plan to run — their infrastructure on Oracle EU Sovereign Cloud can now deploy Vertama’s reporting process solutions in that environment.

Vertama takes a platform-agnostic approach. The choice of cloud infrastructure sits with the hospital — Vertama adapts to the client’s environment, not the other way around. Expanding to Oracle EU Sovereign Cloud is not a strategic shift; it is an extension of the options available to clients for whom data sovereignty and EU infrastructure residency carry particular weight.

Vertama closes seven-figure seed round to digitize medical reporting in German hospitals

BERLIN – Vertama has closed a seven-figure seed funding round led by High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), joined by Berlin Angel Fund and additional business angels. The capital will accelerate the expansion of Vertama’s platform for automating statutory reporting processes in hospital environments.

German hospitals are legally required to submit a wide range of reports to public health authorities — from infection control notifications to bed occupancy data. In many facilities these processes still run manually, tying up clinical staff and introducing unnecessary risk of error. Vertama automates these workflows system-independently, operating directly from within each hospital’s existing clinical information system.

SAP Healthcare Partner Initiative: Vertama as part of the digital hospital ecosystem

SAP’s news.sap.com describes how the SAP Healthcare Partner Initiative brings together European software companies to build innovative hospital solutions on SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). Vertama is featured as a specialist for digital infection control reporting — part of a growing ecosystem of clinical software built for SAP S/4HANA environments.

German hospitals face mounting pressure: staff shortages, a growing investment backlog, and rising digitalization demands coincide with a major planned hospital reform. The SAP Healthcare Partner Initiative, founded in 2020, addresses this environment directly. More than 20 European software partners develop solutions on SAP BTP that integrate natively into SAP S/4HANA infrastructure.
